Despite being adversaries in the comics, Spider-Man and Kingpin have yet to appear together in an MCU film, but that could change. The two characters exist within the same cinematic universe and share a common link with Daredevil. Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio previously shut down the idea of the villain crossing over with Spider-Man because of complicated rights issues. However, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige’s latest comments suggest that such a crossover may now be possible.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz while promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Feige downplayed concerns about character rights preventing Marvel Studios from using them. “They’re not. There are things to navigate like everything else, but we talk about all those characters [crossing over],” said Feige, referring to previous reports of complicated rights issues related to Kingpin.

In the same interview, Feige also commented on the possibility of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man facing off against Tom Hardy’s Venom. Feige’s comments about discussing the possibility of crossing over characters between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios should give fans hope. When asked how close the two studios got to crossing over Spider-Man and Venom, producer Amy Pascal said, “It would be great. Let’s put it that way.” Following that, Feige added that the producers “always have hope” about executing on those ideas.

Fans nearly saw Spider-Man cross paths with both characters around the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Matt Murdock appeared in the film, while Venom briefly entered the MCU in the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage before returning to his own universe.

Peter Parker will interact with more characters from Daredevil’s corner of the Marvel Universe in the new film. The upcoming movie will see Spider-Man team up with the Punisher while facing the Hand, both of which were introduced in Daredevil.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases in theaters on July 31, 2026.
