Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. raised eyebrows with a series of unusual claims during a recent interview, as he ramps up promotion of his upcoming cooking show.
RFK Jr., 72, unveiled the show on both the Health and Human Services website and in a sit-down with USA Today, revealing that The Real Food Show would launch on his YouTube channel, spotlighting "real food at affordable prices" with the help of celebrity chefs. During the promo, he made a strange admission about his gag reflex.

The forthcoming show is also expected to serve as a platform for Kennedy's new Dietary Guidelines, with the HHS website indicating the program is designed to demonstrate that his recommendations are both accessible and budget-friendly, reports the Irish Star.
"Secretary Kennedy is bringing the Dietary Guidelines for Americans to life and showing that cooking with real food can be practical, approachable, and affordable for every family," the HHS website said.

The department also confirmed that the featured meals will prioritize healthy eating, with most dishes priced under $5 per serving. However, in promotional materials for the series, Kennedy appears alongside both chefs Andrew Gruel and Robert Irvine, and will feature a recipe with Gruel for Crispy Salmon Cakes with Apple, White Bean, and Green Salad.
While promoting the show, Kennedy made the unusual claim that he would "eat anything" by stating, "I don't have a gag reflex."
The new program, which purports to spotlight dishes priced at $5 per serving, will be challenging, as inflation has driven prices higher in recent years.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, food costs in the U.S. have jumped 33% over the last seven years–spanning both of Donald Trump's administrations and Joe Biden's.
Costs have continued to climb since the COVID-19 pandemic, which was the main catalyst for the spike. Ground beef serves as a clear illustration: it reached $6.82 a pound in June, a 79 percent rise from 2019.
Costs are expected to continue rising due to mounting pressure from tariffs and the ongoing conflict in Iran, which has significantly impacted oil and energy costs and can also influence gas prices at the pump and food expenses through transportation costs.
According to NBC News, gas prices have surged 30% since the war was initiated by Trump and Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu in February.
