Kay Lee Ray on Post-WWE Career: It’s Good To Have Fun Again

Kay Lee Ray is enjoying her post-WWE career.
Following her departure from WWE, Kay Lee Ray returned to the independent wrestling circuit as a surprise opponent to Molly Spartan at EVE’s History Makers/Rule Breakers event on June 5. Since then, she’s continued wrestling around Europe, all while having fun along the way.
“Have been in a contract for seven years with WWE. I was in a contract before that for a year; I think I just need to be me for a while,” Ray said during a virtual signing with K&S WrestleFest. “I think I need to just enjoy; gone back out on the indies and doing some stuff and see where we go from there. I’m having so much fun the past few months. It’s good to have fun again.” (H/T Fightful)
Ray initially signed with WWE in 2019, with runs as NXT UK Women’s, NXT Women’s Tag Team, and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions coming in the years following. Around the time of WrestleMania 42, Ray knew her existing WWE deal was approaching its end, so she voiced interest in speaking with officials about potentially extending it. Shortly after, Ray learned that the company opted not to renew it, hence her subsequent departure.

According to the former Alba Fyre, she personally leaned toward moving on from WWE anyway, but at the very least, she wanted to converse with the company first.
In addition to EVE, Ray’s post-WWE work has so far included appearances at RevPro and Squash A Jobber Wrestling.
