Nikki Glaser hosts the 2026 Golden Globes -

Producers of the 2026 Golden Globes revealed the internal reaction from CBS executives regarding Nikki Glaser's jab at the network in her opening monologue

During the ceremony on Jan. 11, Glaser said CBS News was "America's newest place to see BS news"

The Globes team also shared if Glaser will be returning to host for a third year in a row

Nikki Glaser’s second year hosting the Golden Globe Awards was a success across the board!

The comedian, 41, returned for the annual ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 11, where she kept with tradition, opening the show with a monologue poking fun at Hollywood stars and current events. Amid her playful jabs, Glaser took aim at recent controversial editorial changes at CBS News — which is run by the same network that was airing the Globes.

"And the award for most editing goes to CBS News," she declared, garnering significant laughter and applause from the audience. "Yes, CBS News, America's newest place to see BS news. We needed another."

The award show’s producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss addressed the jokes during an interview with Variety the following day, revealing CBS executives were aware that it was part of Glaser’s speech ahead of time.

“I think when you start off by doing a self-deprecating joke about your own plastic surgery, you set the tone of, ‘I’m not here to really harm people,’ ” Kirshner noted. “I was sitting next to the CBS executive during rehearsal. Glenn had heard that joke in clubs throughout the week, and we hadn’t heard it all week until rehearsal day.”

“She did it, I was sitting with the CBS exec, and I looked over at her, and she texted a few people, and said, ‘Yeah, it’s okay. It’s fine,’” he continued.

Weiss then added, “Everything in the monologue, why she nails this so well is, we’re poking fun at everything in the industry, including ourselves. It’s just been fun.”

Glaser's comment came amid ongoing changes at the network. On Jan. 7, Tony Dokoupil began hosting CBS Evening News, making him the sixth anchor of the broadcast in the last decade. A few weeks prior, in December 2025, the network abruptly pulled a planned 60 Minutes segment that focused on Venezuelan men who were deported by the Trump administration to a notorious El Salvador prison.

This also follows Skydance’s $8 billion acquisition of Paramount, the network's parent company. The merger also came after CBS News settled a lawsuit with President Donald Trump last summer.

When asked if Glaser would be welcomed back to host the 2027 Golden Globes, Weiss said, “We all have been focused on this year. No conversation about it. But if you ask me, what’s in my heart, I certainly hope so.”

In addition to Glaser’s dig at CBS, she roasted celebrity attendees in the audience, including Leonardo DiCaprio. Joking that he was nominated for "one man bun after another" instead of his movie One Battle After Another, Glaser teased the actor, 51, for his age gap with his girlfriend, Italian model Vittoria Ceretti, 27.

“You’ve worked with every great director, you’ve won three Golden Globes and an Oscar,” Glaser began. “The most impressive thing is that you were able to accomplish that all before your girlfriend turned 30.”

At another point in the monologue, Glaser also called out the Trump administration for its redactions of the Epstein files. "I cannot believe the amount of star power we have in this room tonight. It's insane," she said. "There are so many A-listers, and by A-list I do mean a list that has been heavily redacted. And the Golden Globe for Best Editing goes to the Justice Department. Yes. Congratulations."
