Taylor Sheridan has created hit show after hit show on Paramount+, one of which includes the neo-Western drama Landman. The series stars Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, who works within the oilfields of West Texas, initially as a landman and later as the president of M-Tex.

Season 2, which wrapped up on Sunday, Jan. 18, ends with things changing fast for Tommy and his family. After getting fired from M-Tex, he immediately gets to work on starting an oil company of his own, which is sure to create major problems with Cami (Demi Moore), especially since he poaches a few of her employees.

So where does that leave Landman heading into season 3? Here's everything we know about the series' future.

Yes, Landman is coming back for a third season. Paramount+ announced the renewal on December 5, less than three weeks after the second season kicked off.

The season 2 premiere drew more than 9.2 million viewers in its first two days on the streamer, a 262% increase over the first season premiere. Landman has also been a top performer among Paramount+ originals and is currently the No. 1 show on the Nielsen streaming charts.

Ali Larter, who plays Tommy's ex-wife Angela, celebrated the renewal on Instagram, writing, "So excited to announce we are coming back for season 3! Thank you to the fans that have made Landman such a massive success. Honored to work on this show with such exceptional actors and crew. Heart is full."

There had initially been some uncertainty about the show's future after Sheridan announced he was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal. His departure prompted questions about his shows, including Landman, but co-creator and showrunner Christian Wallace said the series plans remain the same.

"We still have a lot of runway," he told ScreenRant. "We're just going to keep doing exactly what we've been doing. Nothing at all has changed, so that's for a future person to worry about."

He added, "The thing about this show is there are so many ways that this can go, and the world is so vast and big. It's full of stories, and so far we're two seasons in and we've barely skimmed the surface of what we can do and what we want to do. So I just think that there's a lot of runway left, and as long as there's a story to tell and people are there for it, I hope we get to keep telling it."

The Landman season 2 finale ties up several storylines for the Norris family while also setting the stage for what's to come. Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) initially struggles to adjust to college and the cheerleading team, but by the end of her first practice, she's starting to find her footing and even makes a few friends.

Meanwhile, Cooper (Jacob Lofland) beats a man who attempted to sexually assault Ariana (Paulina Chavez). Upon bringing her to the police station, the detectives seem to side with the assailant who died (though we later learn it was from a heart attack at the hospital), putting Cooper in hot legal water.

Luckily, Rebecca (Kayla Wallace) steps in and lets everyone know that charging Cooper with murder would be a big mistake. Later, Tommy and Sheriff Walt Joeberg (Mark Collie) take it up with the police chief and convince him not to press charges.

While Tommy is trying to keep his son out of jail, he's also busy figuring out his next move after Cami fired him from M-Tex in the penultimate episode. By the end of the season 2 finale, he starts his own oil company, CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle.

He gets cartel boss Danny "Gallino" Morrell (Andy García) to leave Cami and M-Tex and invest in CTT as an equal partner. Tommy appoints Cooper as president and takes the senior vice president role, with Nate, Rebecca, Dale, T.L., and Boss rounding out the board.

What will Landman season 3 be about?

As of this writing, there is no official synopsis for Landman season 3. Even the cast appears to be in the dark, as Thornton recently told Men's Journal he doesn't "know anything" about the upcoming third season.

"Taylor plays it very close to the vest," the Oscar winner explained. "He doesn't tell any of us what he's up to. He'll probably tell me, maybe after I get the first script. Then he'll tell me a few things that are going to happen."

Still, audiences can expect to follow Tommy and his crew as they run their new oil company, navigate headache-inducing family dinners with Angela, and see how Ainsley is doing at college. And, of course, there's bound to be some drama once Cami finds out what Tommy's been up to since she fired him.
