Dominik Mysterio Calls Retiring WWE Hall of Famer His Birthright

Dominik Mysterio has made it clear that he already has one career-defining match mapped out in his mind.

While speculation has surrounded Rey Mysterio’s eventual retirement for some time, the Judgment Day star believes there is only one person who should bring his father’s legendary career to an end.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Dominik didn’t hold back as he explained why he feels destined to be the final opponent for the WWE Hall of Famer.

Dominik Mysterio wants to retire Rey Mysterio in Tijuana

Earlier this year, rumors suggested Rey Mysterio could retire in a match against Dominik at WrestleMania. However, Dominik revealed there were never any discussions about that taking place.

“I don’t think there was ever any talks for it, but I’ve been talking about it. I want him out of here. Now even with my sister coming in, there’s only room for so many Mysterios. There’s one pushing 60 and I think it’s time for him to kick rocks.”

Despite that, Dominik insisted no one else should end Rey’s in-ring career.

“It has to be. I don’t see any other way for it. I genuinely don’t. It’s my birthright. I will lose my absolute sh*t if it’s not me. I have to do it; it’s the only way possible. I gotta take his mask and I gotta take his name.”

The former Intercontinental Champion also revealed the venue he envisions for such a historic encounter.

“If it was up to me, I would do it in El Auditorio de Tijuana Fausto Gutierrez… I think my dad versus me in a retirement match somewhere in Tijuana would be insane.”

Dominik explained that the arena holds deep family significance, noting that Rey Mysterio debuted there and that several members of his extended wrestling family also competed in the historic venue.

For now, Dominik’s attention remains on SummerSlam 2026, where he is set to face Danhausen in the “Human Monies on a Pole” match. Still, it’s clear he has one eye on a much bigger prize. If the Mysterio legacy eventually comes down to father versus son one last time, Dominik already knows the finish he wants — and he’s hoping to unmask history rather than simply repeat it.
