Spoiler alert! The following story contains major details about the ending of “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” (now in theaters). It all comes down to the power of sisterhood. At the start of the “Super Mario” sequel, Princess Rosalina (Brie Larson) was kidnapped by Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie), who aimed to drain her cosmic powers in a foolhardy attempt to control the universe and free his father Bowser (Jack Black). But with the help of Mario (Chris Pratt), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and a gaggle of new friends, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) manages to save her sister Rosalina, and together, they team up to rebuild Peach’s castle, which was destroyed by Junior’s starship. It’s a seemingly tidy end to the otherwise Easter egg-filled movie, although it’s not the final period on this chapter of the story.

Once behind bars, they are horrified to learn that their prison guard is the taunting, morbid Lumalee from the first movie.“Hello maggots,” the nihilistic blue star (voiced by Juliet Jelenic) greets them with a devilish grin, reminding father and son that their bodies will soon waste away, and the steady “drum beat of death” rolls on. Cheery, right? In the second end-credits scene, a pilfering primate known as a Ukiki tries to steal from a tree spirit called a Whittle. But the monkey is ultimately stopped by a mysterious figure. “Thank you very much, Your Highness,” the Whittle says, as the camera pans over to a grinning Princess Daisy and the screen cuts to black.Although she has no dialogue, it’s a much-welcome introduction to the fan-favorite Daisy, a spunky royal recognized for her brunette hair and yellow-gold dress. The character first appeared in 1989 in “Super Mario Land” for Nintendo Game Boy, and she is sure to play a major role in whatever comes next. Speaking of …
