Collin Gosselin has penned a letter to his younger self

The Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum shared the note to Instagram on Wednesday, July 29

ā€œYou won’t always carry this alone,ā€ he wrote

Collin Gosselin is reflecting on his childhood.

The Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum, 22, posted a letter to his younger self on Instagram on Wednesday, July 29, ahead of the release of his forthcoming memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.

Gosselin shared the letter, which began with ā€œDear little me,ā€ alongside a black-and-white image of himself as a child.

ā€œYou won’t always carry this alone,ā€ wrote the son of Jon and Kate Gosselin. ā€œOne day, you’ll turn your pain into purpose, your silence into a voice, and your story into hope for other children. You will be the reason someone else speaks up. I’m so proud of you.ā€

Collin, who announced his book on June 17 and previously alleged that Kate mistreated him during his childhood, rose to fame as one of the sextuplets featured in his family’s reality show, which premiered in 2007. The book revisits what he’s described as some of the most difficult periods of his life and its cover appears to feature a childhood image of him with his estranged mother.

The reality series also featured his seven siblings: twins Mady and Cara, now 25, and fellow sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Leah and Joel. After Jon and Kate divorced in 2009, Kate was initially awarded custody of their eight children.

Ahead of the book’s Oct. 13 release, Collin wrote on Instagram that he ā€œwasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story.ā€

ā€œGrowing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw,ā€ he wrote. ā€œFor years, I kept those experiences to myself. Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I just wasn’t ready.ā€

He added, ā€œWriting this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life, but it also gave me something I’ve been searching for for a long time: my voice. This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.ā€

After the book announcement, Kate commented on the suggestion of taking legal action against her son over his claims about her. She responded to a TikTok commenter on June 29, who suggested she should sue her son for defamation if his allegations are untrue.Ā ā€œI can’t bc I’m a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I def would!ā€ she wrote.

Collin then responded to her public comments on his Instagram Stories: ā€œNever forget the fact that my mom would write in her diary how she ā€˜had to pray to God to stop hitting me’ (this was while I was 2 years old by the way),ā€ he alleged. ā€œAnd this is why using my voice to put these things in the light is so important.ā€

In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My ChildhoodĀ is set to be released on Oct. 13 and is available for preorder now, wherever books are sold.
